SHRM Director, Integrated Marketing in Alexandria, Virginia

The Director of Integrated Marketing is a self-motivated, dynamic, critical thinker with a deep understanding of marketing, audience behavior, cross-channel messaging, content creation, branded PR campaign strategy and measurement/analytics. The role will drive the marketing strategies of SHRM and measure the impact of content in order to achieve revenue goals. The director will strategize and understand the impact of an integrated marketing plan by working with product and membership marketing, communications, sales, editorial, government affairs and research to distill key benefits into marketing messages. This role will lead the development of compelling, audience-specific messages and content, and will execute multi-channel market strategies and campaigns. The Director will create strategic and measurable project plans, including goals, messaging, call to action, and distribution channel execution plus analyze results for optimization.


Your Day:

  • Lead integrated marketing efforts for SHRM. Build targeted insights to inform the design and development of new customer experiences, as well as breakthrough technology and concepts designed to deliver on new go-to-market strategies.

  • Lead integrated marketing strategy across channels and audiences, including tactical deployment and measurement/analytics.

  • Develop an intimate understanding of the business and HR market, competitive landscape, and customer journey.

  • Ensure everything in the marketing cycle at SHRM is integrated and customized for our audiences to drive results. Champion collaboration, understand all channels and how content thrives on them, and design campaigns that have meaning, messages and content that move the needle.

  • Develop integrated marketing strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for SHRM in the face of shifting business, HR, consumer and policy demands.

  • Act as a resource for other departments by being the authority on market trends, product strengths/weaknesses, the competitive landscape and how any marcom campaign can be used by all of SHRM to drive its individual goals.

  • Foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, be a coach and team-player, and be able to consistently deliver results. Manage and develop a team of two while collaborating in a cross-function marketing communications and experience division.

  • Partner and ensure integration across the Digital Insights and Experience team to optimize and increase speed via effectiveness and efficiencies based on data.

  • Build strategic business value to win in the marketplace by solving business problems using analytical methodologies as well as leveraging current statistical tools and analytic reports to reinforce fact-based decision-making around SHRM’s content and integrated marketing.

  • Forecast, track, and report marketing program and campaign effectiveness metrics as well as overall ROI. Use data and testing to optimize and improve the content and targeting for marketing programs and campaigns. Continually monitor, analyze and tune marketing activities to maximize conversion.


Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.

  • At least 10 years of experience in a marketing/PR agency or corporate setting.

  • Expertise in marketing principles, specifically content marketing.

  • Proven track record of decision-making and problem-solving based on analytics.

  • Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation

  • Responsible for SHRM’s integrated content mapping of consistent, streamlined, value-drive and strategic materials.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Strong project and time management skills.

  • Proficiency with Salesforce and how it is used in the marketing function to customize content and consumer journeys.

  • Ability to identify optimal strategies and determine the mix of channels that work best for different types of integrated content and campaigns.

  • Strong business judgment, leadership, and integrity

  • Tenacity in decision-making, with the ability to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business.

  • Immaculate written and oral communication skills, coupled with strategic influencing skills.

  • An understanding of the big picture and fine details and ability to display an intense focus on achieving both short- and long-term goals.

  • Drive and passion to excel in a fluid environment. Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment.

Let us know if you also have:

  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field .

  • PMP, preferred not required.

  • 12+ years of experience in a marketing/PR agency or corporate setting.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
