Position Overview:
SHRM is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Technology to join our team. This role is responsible for refining and executing the company’s information technology strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives, and leading a large IT Managed Services team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in IT management, exceptional leadership skills, experience overseeing operational activities, and proven ability to drive innovation and efficiency across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic IT Partner:
Collaborate with SHRM’s senior leadership to align key IT Managed Services Team (IT Team) and other key strategic partners with SHRM’s organizational goals and objectives.
Act as a liaison between the IT Team and the SHRM lines of businesses to ensure alignment, remove blockers, adjudicate problems, and escalate to SHRM senior leadership as needed to resolve ongoing issues.
Identify opportunities for technology-driven improvements and innovations to enhance SHRM’s IT partnership and delivered services and operations.
Provide strategic and technical guidance on IT initiatives and projects to support SHRM’s mission.
Leadership of IT Managed Services Team:
Lead and manage the IT Team by fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
Ensure the IT Team delivers high-quality IT services in support to SHRM’s members and staff.
Ensure the IT team adheres to best practices in IT service management to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Oversee the planning, implementation, and successful execution of the portfolio of IT projects across the SHRM enterprise IT estate, ensuring the IT Team delivers on time, within scope, and within budget.
Oversee IT project risk management process and assisting the IT team to mitigate risks and to ensure project success.
Collaborate with the IT Team to ensure projects meet SHRM’s needs and requirements.
Refine and establish IT Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will be used to periodically measure and track how well the IT Team is delivering projects, managing the IT estate, adhering to quality standards, and providing value across the SHRM enterprise.
Technical Support for Senior Leaders:
Act as a technical resource and advisor to SHRM’s senior leadership, providing insights on emerging technologies and industry trends.
Assist in the development and implementation of IT policies and procedures that support SHRM’s strategic objectives.
Facilitate technology-related decision-making processes to ensure alignment with SHRM’s goals.
IT Budget Management:
Develop, review, and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while supporting SHRM’s strategic initiatives.
Monitor and control IT expenditures, providing regular financial reports to senior leadership.
Evaluate and approve IT investments and expenditures to ensure alignment with SHRM’s priorities.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
Establish and maintain relationships with key IT vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Negotiate contracts and manage vendor performance to achieve optimal value for SHRM.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their IT needs and requirements and ensure they are met.
Security and Compliance:
Ensures the IT Team secures SHRM’s IT infrastructure, systems, applications, networks, and data and ensure SHRM is compliant with relevant security and privacy regulations and industry standards.
Develop and enhancements to IT security policies and procedures to protect SHRM’s assets.
Stay informed about the latest cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies, and ensure SHRM’s IT environment is protected.
Education & Experience Requirements
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Extensive equivalent experience and training may be considered in lieu of degree.
10+ years of experience in IT leadership roles, preferably within a large organization or membership-based association.
Demonstrated strategic planning and project management skills.
Experience managing a large IT team including external vendors, and budget.
Proven ability to communicate and build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization; must be able to interact effectively with senior leadership and key stakeholders.
Familiarity with ITIL or similar IT service management frameworks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work Environment
This hybrid role is based in Alexandria, VA headquarters of SHRM and in addition, will require maintaining a home office.
Expected travel is 0-10%.

The hiring range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
