The Manager, Educational Programs manages the development, execution, strategic direction and is accountable for meeting and growing the revenue for this $11M SHRM Educational Programs business. This includes synchronous virtual and face to face delivery and blended learning experiences delivered through SHRM’s Specialty Credential Program. The manager identifies and coordinates qualified instructors to deliver relevant course content, and uses data and research to drive decisions for program topics, locations and mode of delivery. The Manager is expected to understand and translate adult learning principles and trends to drive continued innovation of SHRM's Education business. The Manager, Educational Programs also serves as an advisor to curriculum development and instructional design.

Position Description

  • Key decision maker in all facets of business and educational programs (face to face, virtual and corporate synchronous programs) as well as programs conducted at SHRM events

  • Collaborates with the marketing department regularly on developing and writing promotion copy, identifying opportunities and target audiences/partners, and maintaining /developing the educational programs website and ecommerce platform

  • Manages and directs all on-site program logistics and activities as well as all vendor relations (including negotiating contract and service terms). Serves as on-site manager at select events in member facing role

  • Acts as the central liaison for program instructors including negotiating faculty contracts and securing commitments

  • Builds competitive SHRM educational programs, course curriculum, and specialty credentials, which support the Society's overall mission to promote business literacy and support the human resource profession

  • Identify topics, trends and learning models for new educational programming, including SHRM Senior Leadership Programs, make recommendations for updates for current curriculum content using course feedback and evaluations as well as market intelligence.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs, attendee satisfaction, and identify the need for new topics based on market research, member surveys, program evaluations, and alignment with SHRM's competency model across all career levels

  • Manages, coach and develop a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities to support and grow the SHRM Educational Programs business

  • Develops and manages the program schedule (including programs at the SHRM Annual Conference and specialty conferences) by identifying program dates and locations and assigning instructors to SHRM Educational Programs

  • Collaborates with events team, marketing department and other internal stakeholders on coordinating space selection, promotional materials, financial accountabilities, and more

  • Oversees enrollment management issues, troubleshoots and resolves customer related and technology issues

  • Develops, maintains, and regularly reports on the annual budget for SHRM Educational Programs. Oversees the financial management of seminars by monitoring budget variances and planning appropriate adjustments to maintain profit margins

Position Qualifications

Must haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, or related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in business management to include building and managing budgets, accountability to revenue goals and strategic initiatives. 8+ years of relevant experience in Human Resources, Education and/or Training. Experience in project and program management, proven stakeholder management and people management skills, expertise in developing project plans and processes. Experience utilizing business intelligence to make data driven decisions. Experience in virtual learning platforms and virtual program delivery.

  • Ability to develop and manage budgets, financial analysis and reporting

  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, analytical, decision-making, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong professional presence

  • Ability to manage and develop a team

  • Previous stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, budgeting and financial analysis platforms and database applications

  • Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects on time

  • Ability to work positively with partners in coalitions, in teams, and independently.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • This job requires moderate travel 20-30%
