The Marketing Copywriter Manager is a self-motivated, dynamic, critical thinker with a deep understanding of marketing, audience behavior, cross-channel messaging, content creation, and branded storytelling. The role is the primary content strategist and marketing copywriter,leading the development of compelling audience-specific content pieces – long-form and short-form. The Manager will understand strategy and will write compelling, transformative, persuasive prose – including but not limited to digital copy, email copy, subject lines, social media, ad copy, taglines, print pieces, etc.


  • Partner on SHRM’s integrated content mapping ofconsistent, streamlined, value-drive and strategic materials with an eye towards how to tell the story across channels and to different audiences. Take one master campaign and, through copywriting, break it into different assets to drive impact and conversion with SHRM’s different audiences. Tailor messages so that they matter to the people reading them.

  • Use targeted insights to inform the design and development of new content – long-form and short-form.

  • Inspire SHRM members, prospects and stakeholders in the business community to act. SHRM’s products, services and thought leadership are designed to transform the world of work into a world of work that works for all.

  • Through communications, inspire, lead and motivate audiences to behavior change to improve the environment for employers and for employees.

  • Craft integrated and customized content for SHRM’s audiences to drive results.

  • Responsible for immersive research and understanding of SHRM’s products and messaging stances, as well as the business, HR and economic environment. Ensure best-in-class marketing communication ideas that are crafted with understanding of the outside world, the client, the audience and the channel.

  • SEO & SEM and a firm grasp on how content and messaging of campaigns are searched for and found by audiences.

  • Brainstorm and strategize on campaigns that include national advertising, digital, social, owned, earned, print, and in-person experiences and events.

  • Ensure grammatical accuracy, message clarity and a consistent style and voice through all content. Proofread copy and review collateral layouts to ensure they make sense for the story being crafted all with a keen eye for detail.

  • Seek ways to optimize content performance, using metrics and tracking to ladder back to business goals.

  • Use persuasive writing through the marketing lens.

  • Conceive and produce effective marketing campaigns in partnership with product owners and a team of marketers, aligned with the corporate brand guidelines.

  • Leader and mentor team members while balancing ability to work independently and manage simultaneous projects with many moving parts and timelines.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in a writing and messaging role at a marketing/PR agency or consumer-facing setting

  • Exceptional marketing copywriting, editing and proofreading skills.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams – marketing communications, corporate communications, social media, editorial, GA, research and more to drive marketing messages that tell a story AND drive action/conversion.

  • Expertise in marketing principles, specifically content marketing.

  • Mastery of AP Stylebook and an understanding of when to bend the rules for certain audiences.

  • Ability to shift between writing for a gen pop audience to an executive audience and everything in between.

  • Demonstrated ability to ask questions, understand market trends, pull the SHRM strategy into the messaging and take a project from a blank piece of paper to extensive mutli-faceted, persuasive content.

  • Expertise communicating a value prop or campaign in a moving and yet clear manner to drive an audience to action.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • This job requires occasional travel 0-10%
