Under the direction of the Manager of Event Experience, the Senior Specialist, Event Communications drives and measures all pre, during and post-SHRM event communication to elevate the SHRM event experience overall. The senior specialist supports each of SHRM’s major conference offerings, including immersive event experiences and campaigns for our Annual Conference & Expo, specialty conferences, and other hybrid meetings and events reaching between 100 – 25,000 people annually. The senior specialist has a strong understanding of the events and conference industry for both in-person and virtual events, with a keen interest in understanding audience personas and behavior. Developing overarching communications strategies and stories that translate into top-notch in-person and virtual events, ultimately promoting the SHRM brand and business goals.

Your Day:

  • Develop and execute tailored communication plans, including recommended timelines, channels of communication, engagement moments and calls to action to build custom attendee journeys.

  • Write and coordinate outreach to event attendees, including compelling and pithy emails, automated communications, announcements/notifications and other touchpoints.

  • Support management of day-to-day event strategy through the lens of creative storytelling, including messaging framework, topic and speaker ideation, visual identity, event persona, and more.

  • Produce and integrate audience-centric content for event websites, email campaigns, virtual platforms, mobile apps, online communities, on site signage and materials, and more.

  • Craft key messaging and event narratives that map to SHRM event goals and objectives; partner closely with Marketing, Communications, Digital, Editorial and other internal teams to ensure consistent storytelling in all collateral and websites.

  • Create or review event programming and sponsors/exhibitors-related content such as session descriptions, scripts, speaker profiles, pitch letters and more.

  • Manage other writing projects to support SHRM events, including executive summaries, presentations, event evaluations, creative briefs and more.

  • Other duties as assigned to support SHRM events.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English or a related field (or equivalent relevant work experience and training).

  • At least five (5) years of progressively complex experience in a similar work environment and role, preferably with medium to large brand(s) or organizations.

  • Expertise in live and virtual events/conferences.

  • Clear demonstration of successful project management.

  • Excellent omnichannel writing skills.

  • Strong project management and time management skills.

  • Consistent attention to detail, organization and prioritization, with an ability to multi-task and manage complex projects.

  • Self-starter attitude, collaborative spirit and ability to be flexible and move quickly in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong creativity, savviness and initiative.

  • Good judgment skills and adherence to deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint/Keynote.

  • Experience working with Marketo or similar email platform, as well as Salesforce or similar CRM.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

  • Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Travel Required: Occasional 0-10%
