SHRM Senior Specialist, Total Rewards in Alexandria, Virginia

The Senior Specialist, Total Rewards actively contributes to the design and delivery of a comprehensive organization-wide total reward program that supports effective talent acquisition, retention and engagement, and aligns with the organization’s objectives offair, best-in-class and competitive employee rewards program. The Senior Specialist, Total Rewards is responsible for the administration, of the organization’s Total Reward programs. Responsibilities include day-to-day Health and Welfare program administration; administration of annual benefit renewals and open enrollment; maintenance and ongoing administration of the organization’s compensation programs; partnering with the Total Rewards team on the well-being strategy and partnering with the team on administering other best-in-class total rewards programs.
Responsible for the ongoing administration of the organization’s base pay program.
Support and facilitate the development of job descriptions with stakeholders, conduct job evaluation and market pricing, communicate salary recommendations to managers.
Participate in salary surveys; analyze and apply survey results to internal salary structures.
Administer the cyclical compensation processes/programs, including annual merit, market adjustments, promotions, and incentive plans.
Responsible for the compliant administration of group benefit programs by independently handling day to day activities, assigned projects and escalating cases as appropriate.
Responsible for insuring all carrier eligibility files are maintained, processed timely and accurately.
Oversee 401(k) and pension plan operations, acting as the primary point of contact for the plan record keeper, and performing monthly data audits; ensure plan compliance by working with vendors and by maintaining plan documents.
Manage annual benefits open enrollment, ensuring all deadlines are met by all parties, testing the enrollment system, updating plan related documents, preparing and delivering open enrollment communications, and ensuring enrollment data are delivered and loaded correctly.
Actively participate in Benefit plans annual renewals and in the design of any new or changed benefit program; manage the implementation of any new employee benefit programs.
Research benefits issues, policies and plans, and provide proactive customer service support to internal and external customers.
Collaborate and maintain accountability with outside vendors, such as brokers, partners and benefits vendors to assure high customer service levels.
Update and maintain internal standard operating procedures, and all benefits plan documents, policies and materials.
Wellness and Well-Being
- Contribute to the design of the annual well-being program including programs and budget, including vendor selection, program communications, program coordination and delivery, evaluations, and award payments
Total Reward Programs Communication
Proactively developand maintain organizational communication vehicles, such as policy changes, intranet, announcements and newsletters, to ensure employees have knowledge and understanding of the Total Rewards Programs.
Oversee the annual production and delivery of Total Rewards Statements.
Total Rewards Strategy and Systems
Work effectively as a team member with members of management and the HR staff to ensure timely and accurate total rewards processes and reporting and positive employee experiences.
Work with the Director in developing a modern Total Reward strategy that is aligned with the organization's needs and goals.
Stay abreast of best practices, trends and legislative changes in the field of Total rewards.
Conduct compensation and benefits compliance reviews and assess compliance with existing policies, state and federal laws.
Ensure that compensation and benefits systems are set up and administered accurately and efficiently, with continuous improvement as the goal. This includes playing a key role in HR systems maintenance and upgrades, ensuring systems support program processes, and performing tests and audits to verify data accuracy set-up.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance or related field .
SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP required within one year of employment.
7 years of combined progressive experience in Compensation and Benefits, including a minimum of 3 years of experience with job analysis and 2 years in Benefits administration.
Ability to work in a fast pace environment with superior attention to details and accuracy.
Ability to think critically – recognizes connections, translates goals into action, uses strong judgment to make choices in alignment with strategy and organization culture/values.

Working knowledge of Excel and HRIS software

CCP certification or progress toward CCP is desirable but not required.
Prior experience leading projects.
Experience with wellness programming.
Advanced Excel skills (advanced formula development, pivot table design, graphs, charts, etc.)

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
