The Field Services Directors are SHRM staff that cover a territory of states and work directly with chapters, state councils and members to engage, inform and educate them about the field of Human Resources and the benefits of SHRM.

The Field Services Director (FSD) is THE local SHRM presence in their assigned geographic territory and promotes SHRM’s strategic initiatives, products & services. This includes SHRM membership growth and membership retention, growth of SHRM certification, field intelligence, issue management and escalation of concerns and opportunities that impact SHRM.

Accountable for fostering chapter and state council relations that align with SHRM’s interests, excellence in operational efficiency, improving certification penetration, provide lead generation for B2B and member engagement. Through collaborative openness, create and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders including potential, new and current SHRM members, expiring members, key volunteer leaders and colleagues from other internal SHRM departments.

This is a home based position.

YOUR TYPICAL DAY WILL INCLUDE:

  • Positively promoting SHRM's vision and mission, strategic objectives, programs, services, certification and member benefits to all members, potential members and volunteer leaders.

  • Being accountable for the relationship between SHRM and its affiliates with focus on efficient operations, compliance and alignment to SHRM’s strategic priorities. Leading and/or facilitating affiliates' strategic planning processes that influences alignment to SHRM’s initiatives.

  • Developing/coaching volunteers through SHRM’s volunteer development resources and activities. Conducting Strategic Planning with chapter boards and state councils. Partnering with volunteer leaders to ensure membership growth/retention meets or exceeds SHRM goals and to promote 100% SHRM chapter membership.

  • Analyzing territory data and exhibit critical thinking that focuses on understanding and growing the market or in certain circumstances may need to consolidate the markets and serving the HR professionals in the territory. Provides marketing consultation, resources and guidance as needed.

  • Leading projects and serving as subject matter experts for key initiatives across SHRM and the FSD team. Creating and delivering public speaking excellence through engagements at chapter, state and non-SHRM events.

  • Creating a member experience through customer service and relationship management in every interaction with all stakeholders.

  • Working with Divisional Directors, developing content and planning programs and executing large scale conferences such as the Volunteer Leaders’ Summit, Regional Council Business Meeting, SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition, State Leadership Conferences and other events hosted by chapters and state councils.

  • Providing input into budget planning and forecasting and accountable for managing, prioritizing and reporting of spending in their own individual budgets with focus on operating margin leverage and alignment with SHRM operational priorities.

  • Comfortable with public speaking to audiences of all sizes.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and social communications skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members, volunteers, Internal SHRM Departments, potential members and community leaders from a business perspective.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, work independently and possess strong organizational skills.

  • May be responsible for maintenance of a home office, depending on territory assignment and proximity to HQ or regional offices.

  • Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment with colleagues, members and volunteer leaders.

Required Experience

THIS IS WHAT YOU MUST BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • A Bachelor's degree plus 3-years professional experience in human resource management.

  • Certification as a SHRM-Certified Professional (CP), SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SCP), Certified Association Executive (CAE) highly desirable. If not certified, must obtain within first year of employment.

  • Experience with volunteer leadership and/or governance preferred.

  • Association Management experience preferred.

  • Experience managing a budget a plus.
