SUMMARY

The Senior Specialist, Tax & Regulatory Compliance works closely with the Director of Regulatory Compliance to support the tax function of the Society for Human Resource Management and its subsidiaries (collectively “SHRM”). The Senior Specialist, Tax & Regulatory Compliance will play a key role in preparing detailed tax schedules for both SHRM’s for-profit and nonprofit subsidiaries.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare supporting workpapers for various business income tax filings (federal and state), to include apportionment worksheets and tax models

  • Maintain supporting workpapers for IRS Form 990T, unrelated business activities, and 1120 filings, including indirect overhead allocation worksheets

  • Collect K-1 investment information

  • Review income tax forms prepared by outside advisors, remaining abreast of form requirements

  • Generate or customize NetSuite accounting system reports and saved searches, to retrieve information

  • Independently research tax positions

  • Request and gather internal information from across the SHRM Companies and departments

  • Recommend estimated tax prepayments and create and administer online income tax prepayment accounts

  • Coordinate tax forecasting and maintain relevant Excel schedules

  • Prepare General Ledger tax journal entries, accruals, and reconcile general ledger activity

  • Work with tax preparers to account for deferred tax assets

  • Recommend and develop tax policies and procedures; identify and implement recommendations for improvements

  • Remain abreast of changes in accounting for income taxes, tax apportionment concepts, and corporate income tax forms

  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration field; or equivalent relevant experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in Finance/Accounting or business modeling role

  • Demonstrated experience in budget creation, report generation, financial and operations analytics

  • For-profit or UBIT tax experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel and Adobe Pro

  • Knowledge of GAAP

  • Familiar with IRS Form 990T, Form 1120, and relevant concepts

  • Highly organized and detail oriented

  • Ability to research and communicate complex financial information successfully

  • Excellent analytical aptitude with a proven ability to analyze/interpret data, including financial statements

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects effectively and adhere to tight deadlines

  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and written communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and build consensus across teams and various levels of management

  • Commitment to high standards, customer service, integrity, and ethics

  • Self-motivated, with a sense of autonomy, initiative, and responsibility

  • Experience with financial software including NetSuite and Adaptive Planning preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Expected travel is 0-10% of the time.

The hiring range for this position is $82,000 to $105,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
